history 101

Exposés are my favorite. Learning about past styles and fashion in my opinion is detrimental to the idea of 'MODE'. This weeks, designer pick is Valentino. Naturally, he is the first to be featured because he is an icon. I know that they're many other designers/courtiers that hold the same iconic stature as Valentino, but I chose him because he is my icon.
Valentino Caravani was the designer and founder of Valentino SpA. More recently, he has retired from this position only to be succeeded shortly by Gucci's Alessandra Fasschinetti and more recently to be succeeded by Maria Grazia Chuiri and Pier Paolo Piccioli.
Valentino is best known for his exquisite couture gowns and designing for clientele of royal proportions and there is even a first lady included to the list, Jackie Kennedy Onassis.
In addition to the success of Valentino, stands a man in his shadows, Giancarlo Giammetti. Giammetti was the Honorary President of the Valentino Fashion House.
Valentino introduced  collections of red and whites that were intriguing for their time. His appreciation and obsession for the female silhouette has been expressed into his designs, with each piece, craft or embroidery being as detailed as it possibly could

tip top

One of my favorite top models include Lara Stone. Dutch-born, moved to Paris when she was 16 to pursue a modelling career, this bad girl is known for her gap-toothed smile. Lara Stone is one of my favorite models because she is not afraid of being herself. Lara does not fit the model size 0, however at 5''10' and a size 4, she seems ideal to me. In her recent interview for VOGUE US (January edition- to be honest, I am surprised Anna Wintour allowed this revealing interview), she reveals her secrets about her weight and her alcohol issues.

wind tunnel

Second day back in the Montreal action, and i've got to tell you that people are dressing quite well. Today especially, the wind was out of this world, but poeple still managed to pull of their original looks depsite the weather forecast. I am truly impressed by this city. Yesterday, although it was warmer there were more people dressed a lot less casually.
I noticed a couple of interesting indiviuals, mostly males, for some reason they seemed to grab my attention today more than usual. Many times, I am more fascinated with what women wear because I just get great ideas from them. However today was entirely different. Two noticeabe men today wearing aviator hats and combat boots, tight jeans, and a lit cigarette. They were rocking the whole 'scruffy' look as facial hair and most times I think men should have a clean cut, these men actually pulled of the look. Another similarity amongst both men was the messenger bag.
After rooming St Catherine street and findind these lovely finds at FOREVER 21 , I went boutique shopping and went to my favorite one: 1981 (sorry can't find the site, but it's near RAZBERRY 841, Rue Sainte-Catherine Ouest- and apparently the same owner!).

Later on, I met my friend Ali and got nails done. She works at BUZZ JEANS  , you must go check it out! they have amazing stuff!  She got this lovelyyyy wallet, talk about studded... (picture will be up soon!)

day n night

day started slow, woke up, soy latte, gym, soy latte, chill night with my ladies and gent! after walking around the streets of montreal i've noticed not much of a shift into the spring season. Today was the one of the warmest it's been in a while, 9 degrees and rainy... not to shabby for a  late january montreal day. One major noticeable east coast trend is a CANADA GOOSE winter coat. the norm for choice of color is typically either black orwhite, but i have definitely seen some red, taupe, and beige. I am a proud owner of a beige knee length. A canada goose jacket is staple for east coast residents, you literally trapped in a warm caccoon:) Need I ALSO  mention that they are to be considered or rate the worlds warmest coats! thats just another bonus

After watching Valentino: The Last Emperor, my world changed. EVERY and ANYONE who has a burning, fiery, anguish for fashion must must must pick up this movie. From one fashionista to another this film has changed my life and it will change yours. After watching this film, i developed an appreciation for fabric, textures, and fantasy grew tremendously.... there's nothing in the world like Valentino red
