italia (L) antm

Recently, I read on Fashionista that Vogue Italia would feature America's Next Top Model Cycle 15 winner- Krista White- on its cover. FINALLY, it is about time to see a a winner of top model be emmeresed in the high fashion world. I think that Kristas' Vogue cover will break down the barrier for ANTM models to be more exposed in the high fashion world. No, I havent forgotten that an ANTM contestant Toccara Jones was featured in a spread for Vogue. However, Kristas cover is due in great part  to the new judge who replaced Paulina Porizkova.
In my opinion, this season of ANTM was spiced up... They introduced new judge Andre Leon Talley, high credited as a fashion editor, at American Vogue. His critique was most often either waited for or they relied heavily on it for determining not only the winner, but his input went as far as saving a contestant from elimination.
As I previously mentioned, I can only imagine how far ALT's appraisal for Krista aided her for the cover. However, her pictures were nothing less than perfect, after winning her first challenge she sweeped the competition.
I also should mention that although ANTM selects a 'top model' each season, it does not solidify their career. In most part, like every other model their in the business of themselves. They must work just as hard as Karlie, Daria, and Sasha in booking shows, campaigns, etc. I have yet to see a top model winner as a muse, which I am hoping to see. Beliving that it would change the whole entire world of ANTM.
ALT's approval and appraisal on the show seem to go a long way, maybe ANTM should think about adding/replacing judges?
I was a fan of Kristas and genuinely hope that she makes it ' to the top'. Kristas ideals and fierceness won me over while watching her this season. She advocated to help young girls with self esteem issues, which I really admired.

la nouvelle vague 2010

Since the Chanel and Dior SS Pre-Spring 2010 collections have come out,  I have noticed a recurring theme. The Dior collection was inspired by Jean Seberg, of the French new wave era in film.  I have always been interested by the French new wave, or as it called, la "Nouvelle Vague".
A Bout de Souffle (Breatheless), is the face of the new wave era. The movie stars, Jean Paul Belmondo and Jean Seberg. In addition, famous faces from that era include Brigitte Bardot and Catherine Denevue.

New wave films explore the concepts of existensialism, italian neorealism, classical Hollywood cinema, poetic realism, and Auteur theory. Although the movies that were produced during this time focused on the marginalized invdiviudals of society, what obviously fascinates me the most were the fashions and styles seen on screen.  Despite the stories of these characters, the women, who were most often portrayed as fragile and indesive managed to always dress impecibly. I believe that although their characters emitted a certain light of weakness, their wardrobes spoke otherwise.
Agruably, what can be more notably remembered about this era include the theme of the films, the vision that the directors took, and the style/fashion in which the film play out.
The fashion/style can be summed up to words like:  colorful horizontal stripes, a foulard (scarf) around the neck, sun hats, gold/red patterns, to round out a very simplistic yet chic look. The sultry and sexy goodess that ruled this era, or should I say the only one, Bridgitte Bardot, was not only a famous face but also one of the very first sex symbols portrayed on the big screen.
Her big blond hair, lucious lips and perfect hourglass figure mark the beginning of the acceptance of sex in films as well as what the public adnorned. in a female figure. So why not recreate this wonderful era?
The fashion dresscode included bodysuits, rompers, and waist singed dressesd. Moreover, most of these styles often alluedd to woman's feminity/sexiness as well as a sophisticated look which could be pulled off anywhere.

ice cold wild child

TGIF! Im feeling quite relaxed and possibly scandalous today.. I am loving Constance Jablonski, wild child, in this editorial spread for VOGUE  China. Her piercing blue eyes contrast very well in each shot.

The first thing that comes to my mind when I think of a wild child is "L'enfant sauvage"- The Wild Child- the story of a feral child named Victor of Averyron. Although the records of the Victor are scarce, a wild child he was no less... Anyways, in high school we learned about Victor and eventually saw a film. Oddly enough theses photographs reminded me exactly of Victor and in addition the spread was perfectly  named 'Wild Child'

A ideas for tribal patterns and prints for spring/summer. I LOVE LOVE LOVE  the blue  jacket!

Have a wild weekend everyone !

i know what you did last summer

Last summer, I began a shoe collection. At first it was buying cute shoes here and there and now  I am on a mission to acquire as many shoes as possible.
I'm looking to add obviously clogs and wedges to my collection. Today, after work I stopped at Zara and I saw a lovely pair of nude fringe wedge booties! They were so adorable, however I do have an endless amount of nude shoes... when in doubt go nude.

Jessica Simpson, Forever 21, Guess

Poti Pati, Miu Miu, Aldo

DKNY, Aldo

I hope to get of use out of the Jessica Simpson  platforms, but they definitely make a great addition to the shoe rack.
Last summer this collection begun, and this summer.. well I'll keep you posted..

wearable pop art

After seeing this photograph on one of my favorite blogs,  JAK & JIL, I was extremely inspired to post. I could not help but stare at this photo thinking "could this be new wearble pop art?".
This classical brown paper bag is transformed into the timeless quilted Chanel 2.55 purse, which holds many symbolic meanings.
The Chanel 2.55 purse is owned by everyone who serves a purpose to fashion and similarily enough I find that a brown paper bag serves many purposes. Not to mention, the economic/environmental debate.

Anyways, I found this quite interesting to be honest because it reminded me of several things. For instance, how  Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein used recognizable symbols and made it their own.
Although I am not quite sure about whether or not i'd use it as a purse, however  it is definitely an innovative idea that could possibly even start into a future trend?

friday summer fun

Unfortunately the weather channel is predicting snow for the weekend, so o the mean time I will be daydreaming of my summer...and at the same time I wont let it affect my wonderful weekend. Infact, since friday=payday, i got overly excited when i saw the new H & M swim wear campaign. All it reminded me of was how excited I was to go summer shopping.

The advertisements feature, our absolute favorite super-top models: Daria Werbowy, Sasha Pivovarova, Lara Stone,  and Erin Wasson
These photographs shot by Patrick Demarchlier get me excited for the summer and these also bring on nostalgic summer memories.
In addition, I really love how H & M features top models in mainstream campaigns. The models bring so excitement and the joy of summer.

My summer plans including working in Montreal and playing in city of Paris for a month at Parsons.
Hopefully everyone has lovely summer plans!

PS
If any of you are in Montreal, please go check out the Holt Renfrew windows. The windows feature a Moroccan Summer theme as seen  in the Vogue-A-Porter for Vogue Paris. It is really well replicated as well as Holt Renfrew made it more playful.
